New Delhi:

TheRRR fever is gripping the world and how. After winning international awards such as the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice awards, RRR is continuing to receive love and adulation from fans and celebrities alike. While it is not unusual for movie-goers in India to celebrate the film in theatres by throwing confetti and dancing, new images now show fans in Japan following suit. A few images of fans celebrating in theatres with RRR playing in the background was shared on Twitter. The user tweeted in Japanese that the visuals were clicked on Monday (January 16). Resharing the images, the official page of RRR said, “This is nothing less than the hungama that our  Jr NTR fans and  Ram Charan  fans do in our local theatres.”

Another user shared an anecdote to reveal just how popular RRR is in Japan. It read, “Late at night on January 18 (Japan time), the servers of each theatre were down due to a rush of people trying to purchase tickets for #RRRMovie , the first screening at Dolby Cinema.”

The post was quote-tweeted by the RRR official page with the note: “G.O.O.S.E.B.U.M.P.S #RRRinJapan #RRRMovie.”

A few days ago, SS Rajamouli, the director of RRR, spoke about how fans consume films of superstars in India, while he appeared as a guest on Late Night With Seth Meyers. Seth Meyers, a fan of the film himself, asked the director about the crowd’s response to his films on an “opening weekend” in India.

To this SS Rajamouli revealed, “The fans will be tearing up newspapers all through the night, making huge bags of confetti, and they come to the theatre. The moment the actor’s name is displayed or the actors come in or they anticipate their favourite star is coming onto the screen, all the confetti will be thrown into the air. You won’t see the picture, and they will be laughing and shouting so loudly, you can’t hear the sound.”

He added, “The projector operator, who is not supposed to meddle with the sound, will be increasing the DB of the sound but still you can’t hear anything.”

Speaking about the global response to the film, SS Rajamouli said: “We are on top of the world. I essentially make films for Indians in India and across the globe. When we started getting appreciation from the west, our initial thought was that, ‘These guys must be the friends of our Indians who went to watch the film’.”

He also added, “When appreciation came in from the West, our initial thought was that these are friends of Indians who have seen RRR. Then celebrities, story writers, film directors, so many people started tweeting about it, talking about the film on social media. They started championing the film by word of mouth, we thought okay this is growing much more. RRR was released on Netflix and was in the top 10 list for 10 consecutive weeks. It is the highest-grossing Indian film in Japan,” referring to the love RRR is receiving in Japan.

Between October 21, 2022, and December 16, 2022,  RRR  raised over 410 million yen at the Japanese box office.  “Delighted to share that #RRRMovie is now the highest-grossing film with the highest footfall recorded for an Indian film in Japan! Thank you for all the love you showered on our stars and director ever since the film’s release,” the post read.

RRR also stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in important roles.
